Google Analytics Referral Spam & Defamation

February 29, 2016

We’re writing this article today to help people that are recently contacting us regarding spam referral traffic coming from our domain in their analytics accounts. Just to start out, we’re fully away of this problem and are currently investigating to try to figure out the source of the spam. We’re including some information below to help assist with this and explain what is happening. If you’re not sure what spam referral traffic is try checking out this article over at Moz.

1 – Is Cut All The Shit spamming traffic to my site?

In short, no we are not. This is the actions of another person sending FAKE spam referral traffic to thousands of websites pretending to be “cutalltheshit.com” when they are in fact not. We’ve investigated our main company server as well as had a 3rd party security company investigate to ensure nothing is on our server.

2 –  Can I help in any way?

Absolutely, yes! If you can send us any information on the originating IP or hostname from the traffic you’re getting that will help us track down the fake traffic so that we can put a stop to this. Any information that you can give us will help us figure out how to resolve it once and for all.

3 – Can I hide this?

Yes you can definitely hide this traffic, it will involve creating a filter to hide traffic coming from our domain (even though it’s fake).

Beyond this we’ve also received a ton of fake Twitter spam, likely from an upset competitor. As always, haters will try to ruin your vision but as long as you keep your eyes on the prize you cannot be stopped 🙂 As we’ve said on Twitter, this is the moment we know that we’ve made it!
